We have made an offer to all other parties, organisations and individuals to make common cause in our part of Dorset to meet the needs of our communities. We invite others to a dialogue about actions and priorities for the next phase, to find ways to sustain and support those who need continuing protection and to help shape a new normal.
Every one of us has the best interests of loved ones, community and country at heart even if as political parties we find it hard to agree on ways and means. With rare exceptions, people are kind and caring. So many have shown this by rallying around our NHS and other hard-pressed services and providers. We have been united by principles of common decency and the need to keep people safe. Although the tide seems to have turned in the rate of infection and the dreadful toll in lives, there is still a long way to go before calm will be restored.
We have all played our part by staying put and keeping our distance. Those who can, have volunteered to sew scrubs or shop for neighbours. The next stage will require more from us. We happen to be Liberal Democrats and we are a network of volunteers and activists. We share this attribute with those in other parties and in other community, social and special interest groups.
This is an open offer to other parties, organisations and individuals to make common cause in our part of Dorset to meet the needs of our communities. We invite others to a dialogue about actions and priorities for the next phase. The onus will be on finding ways to sustain and support those who need continuing protection, a staged return to normal routines, supporting testing, tracking and tracing and more. This will be a long journey - months not weeks.
We want to cooperate across the board, to use our combined networks, community understanding and cooperative spirit to get our world back together. In due course a new normal will emerge. We hope we can all prove how much more we share than keeps us in our respective corners.
Our call to action is to invite you to get in touch. We will follow up in the most appropriate way. If you are interested, please contact us by email to me, Fiona Leacock at [email protected] or by text to 07831 182110.
